About Dr. Cheng
Dr. Cheng's journey to becoming an exceptional dentist began at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He graduated with the Rudolph Hanau Award for Excellence in Prosthodontics, a prestigious recognition of his exceptional skills in this specialized field. Following his graduation, he embarked on a distinguished five-year tenure in the United States Army, combining service to his country with further education and training. His commitment to excellence led him to undertake an intensive Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency, a pivotal experience that has profoundly shaped his approach to dentistry.
Serving Our Country
During his time in the Army, Dr. Cheng's service took him to various corners of the globe, including a notable four-year stint in Okinawa, Japan. Stationed in a unique and challenging environment, he not only provided essential dental care but also served as the unit commander and oversaw the oral health of a close-knit community of soldiers and their families. His military experience wasn't confined to traditional dental duties; he also collaborated with elite units such as Green Berets and Navy Seals, demonstrating adaptability and versatility in demanding situations, and completed the Advance Clinical Practice program, where he underwent more rigorous training in comprehensive dentistry. Dr. Cheng's service overseas provided valuable insights and skills that continue to shape his practice today.
Beyond Dentistry
Dr. Cheng's zest for life extends beyond providing exceptional care for his patients, he enjoys great outdoor adventures including scuba diving, hiking, sky diving, and even dog sledding. His journey from Taiwan to Maryland and eventually to serving his country as a dentist reflects resilience and determination. Dr. Cheng and his wife welcomed their first child in 2023 after moving to Texas. They were drawn to the area's charm after visiting for training. Moreover, his decision to purchase the practice from Dr. Mayfield stemmed from a heartfelt conversation where they realized their treatment philosophies were perfectly aligned. Dr. Cheng's vibrant approach to life not only enriches his own experiences but also fosters deep connections with his patients, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere within his practice.

KELLY ZAHN
Texas Licensed Dental Hygienist
Kelly is a familiar face at our office. She has worked with the practice for over 15 years. Her upbeat attitude and cheerfulness go a long way to encourage all of us here at the office as well as her patients. On the weekends, Kelly enjoys riding motorcycles with her husband Ray and spending time with her two children and granddaughter’s Faye & Hailey.
MICHELLE MOORE
Texas Licensed Dental Hygienist
Michele has been a hygienist at our practice for many years. She was an outstanding student at UTDB and her patients reap the rewards of her attention to detail. Michele has been crucial to our efforts to better serve our patients by adding more days to our hygiene schedule. Michele loves a good project. Weekends are spent working on various projects around the house with her husband Rick or spending time with their two boys.
KIM STIEFEL
Texas Licensed Dental Hygienist
Kim is a proud 1998 UTDB graduate and regularly sports burnt orange. She is dedicated to making your visit a positive experience and is a great listener. Kim has an extensive background in periodontics and uses this knowledge to educate patients and provide superior care. Weekends find Kim working out with her husband Randy. They love to travel, especially visiting their two daughters, one in North Carolina and the other in Hawaii.
Gina Klotz
Texas Licensed Dental Hygienist
Gina is a seasoned dental professional with a wealth of experience, having graduated from UTDB in 1988. With over three decades of dedication to patient care, she brings a passion for delivering top-notch dental services to her practice every day. Her commitment to excellence is evident through her completion of advanced training at the prestigious Pankey Institute, ensuring that she stays at the forefront of dental innovation.
Beyond her work in dentistry, Gina is a die-hard Astros fan who watches almost every single game. She also finds joy in spending quality time with her family and two cherished dogs by the pool.
RUTH NIZOL
Texas Registered Dental Assistant
Ruth has been assisting at the practice since 1994 and is a master at making patients feel at ease with her kind and caring attitude. Weekends you will find her taking long relaxing motorcycle rides with her husband Rick. Ruth is an avid pet-lover and once raised a a baby squirrel orphaned by hurricane Ike. She is the proud mother of two beautiful daughters and grandson, Austin.
BELIA BELTRAN
Receptionist
You will be greeted by Belia’s beautiful smile as you enter our office. Belia has great organizational skills which is a plus in a busy office such as ours. We are excited that she is bilingual and will be able to help us fully communicate with all of our patients. Belia enjoys spending her weekends with her husband Ricky and daughter Alyssa.
DEBRA AUSTIN
Office Manager
Debra has been a dental professional for over 30 years and has held just about every dental position possible with the exception of being a hygienist or doctor. She would be more than happy to assist you and your family if you have any questions.
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling by planes, trains, and automobiles with her husband Jamie. They visit several destinations within the states and abroad. Some of her favorite things to do include taking pictures of her grandkids, family/friend gatherings, and life events in general. She also loves music and football, but not as much as baseball. She is a die hard Astros fan and really enjoys going to as many games as possible.
